Culled from a number of different live performances recorded during the '80s (as well as an awkward outtake from the Duets sessions: a version of "My Way" recorded with Luciano Pavarotti), Sinatra 80th Live is a surprisingly moving document of Frank Sinatra in the final stages of his career. By the time this material was recorded, Sinatra's voice had eroded somewhat, as his range had decreased and his voice had become reedier. Nevertheless, his singing was still impressive, as he re-interprets many of his classics in a new light, bringing a fresh emotional slant to many of the songs. Not all of the performances are comparable to some of his previously recorded versions, but all of the songs offer definitive proof that Sinatra was still capable of producing fine music in his 70s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
